Passata Pasta Sauce

(Source: Bill HR through Flickr. This photo was taken on January 10, 2009 using aCanon EOS 50D.)
Having mentioned to a colleague that I'd been impressed with the flavour a Jamie Oliver Tomato and Rosemary pasta sauce my colleague recounted how she makes her own pasta sauce each week. So having taken note of her instructions I was keen to give some budget friendly Passata a go  - the jarred sauces are getting increasingly expensive aren't they?

Well I don't pretend to be an expert, so I'm not embarrassed with having not learnt about this sooner, but I thought I'd share this tasty money saving tip.

Ingredients to make enough pasta sauce for 2 meals for 2 to 4 people depending on how greedy you are:
2 tbls Olive Oil
1 - 2 onions
garlic - to your taste, I like lots so 4 crushed cloves
One packet of Passata (40p at Co-op, bargain!)

  1. Gently heat the oil, garlic and onion on a low heat until the onion has cooked to a translucent texture.
  2. Once the herbs have softened, add the Passata and leave to simmer very gently for 10 mins.
  3. If being prepared for another day, leave to cool and either divide into two for the fridge or freezer.
This is the basic tomato sauce to which you can add different herbs and chopped vegetables depending on the style you are cooking for.

Please also see the lovely Hannah's at Lou Lou Loves Vintage Basic Sauce Recipe  for a heavier tomato based sauce.

Reading Blogs

Today has been a really good new blog find day for me. There are plenty of cute, inspiring and wise ones I'm going to share with you, and several are in my blogs I'm following on my profile already.

One such one is Lola Nova, and the post I want to share is a tutorial on crochet flower rings. It's really informative and easy to follow, so I'm definitely coming back. There are also lots of older and more recent posts of Lola's that I'm looking forward to reading.

Please let me know of any new inspiring blog finds you have come across recently!

Sneak Peak of the GIVEAWAY!

So my January GIVEAWAY is Karen Voight's 'Voight: Precision training for body and mind'. As posted on Monday on Truly Good Woman Reviews, this isn't a new book but it is great at targeting those problem areas. Now although, I wouldn't necessarily want to look as muscular as Voight, her exercises do develop a more honed, svelte figure whatever your shape.

Here's a sneak peak:

Truly Good Women GIVEAWAY! Work that Body!

Happy New Year!
Of course this is nothing new, for people to adopt a healthier life-style with the start of a New Year. However, whether or not you have started a new fitness regime every year and then forgotten by February, I would like to take this opportunity to recommend Karen Voight's 'Voight: Precision training for body and mind'.
I came across this book almost 15 years ago and I still find them to be effective yet easy to follow exercises. I intend on following the exercises as part of my New Years Resolution, and on reminding myself of her good advice.
In addition to precision focused exercises Voight gives advice on exercise as a lifestyle, diet and recipes.
In fact I so heartily recommend this book that I am giving one away!
